  • Do I need to buy a meal plan?
On-Campus Residents: Students in university residence halls are required to purchase one of our three residential meal plans.
Off-Campus Students: Commuters are not required to purchase a meal plan, but several meal plans are available that fit the commuter lifestyle.
Grace Street Apartment Residents: A meal plan is required for all students living in the Grace Street Apartments. Students may choose any meal plan. If no plan is chosen, it will default to the Weekly 14 + $275.

  • Will my meal plan auto renew for next semester?
Meal plans are selected each semester

  • Will unused meal punches or Dining Dollars roll over?
Unused meal punches do not roll over to the future semester. Unused Dining Dollars from the fall semester will roll over to the spring semester; after spring, any unused Dining Dollars expire.

  • If I have already purchased a meal plan, can I change it?
You can change your meal plan on MyMadison or by contacting Card Services during the designated periods listed in the JMU Dining Services Program Guide.
Don’t worry - simplicity and convenience are all within reach. Once you have a meal plan, your student ID works like a debit card. Just swipe your card and the meals and points are deducted from your meal plan account.

Dining Dollars
If Dining Dollars run low, you can make a deposit to your account. Just go to Card Services (2nd floor of the Student Success Center) or Dining Dollars Account Information on the Card Services website. To differentiate added funds from your original Dining Dollars, we call them Dining Dollars GOLD. Food and beverage purchases at retail locations get a 5 percent discount when you pay with Dining Dollars GOLD (this does not include residential locations D-Hall, E-Hall). Unused Dining Dollars transfer from fall to spring semester, but unused dollars at the end of spring semester are not refundable and do not carry over to the next academic year. Dining Dollars GOLD carry over from year to year.
